Laura and Matt’s Aberdeenshire wedding

American Laura met Scottish Matt in Losotho (in southern Africa) and the result was a wonderful wedding in rural Aberdeenshire. The weather forecast wasn’t good, but in the end everyone stayed dry (with the help of some friendly trees.)
After a service in Aboyne, everyone moved on to the magnificent Lonach Hall in Strathdon, where, after some moving speaches, an evening of energetic Ceileidh dancing followed.

Julie and Ross’s wedding at Innes House

It was a pretty terrible weekend weather wise in the southern half of Scotland, but up in the north, at Innes House near Elgin, it was nice enough for Julie and Ross to have an outdoor wedding. We were sheltered from the high winds by the walled garden and the huge and beautiful trees surrounding it.

Innes House has a unique marquee attached to their ballroom, and it actually contains part of the gardens.

The evening was livened up by two ’singing waiters’ who entertained (and embarrassed Ross) and continued on to a night of mad dancing.

These are actually my favourite expressions from last year’s wedding photography. My photography is all about seeing the moment and capturing it – whether it’s the bride’s father’s nervousnous, a Gay Gordons heading for impact, the delight in a couple eyes, or the happiness expressed by their guests.

I returned from Nairn the long way round, via Aberdeen. I was there to photograph four year old Callum and two year old Innes. Apparently I’d photographed Callum before, when he was a very young baby and his parents were guests at a wedding I photographed.
The only way the weather could have been worse was if it had been raining, but then to two young boys, a freezing gale force wind is something to be enjoyed (unlike us adults!)
As I left Aberdeen, the radio was announcing a road near Glenshee closed because of drifting snow, and that the Shetland ferry was stuck outside Aberdeen harbour in 70mph winds….

Tasha and Craig’s wedding at the Pittodrie House Hotel

I first met Tasha and Craig at Craig’s sister’s wedding last year – and doesn’t time seem to fly when you’re enjoying yourself? Last Saturday certainly seemed to whizz by, with great photos appearing in front of my camera one after another in quick succession.
Tasha had told me that cameras don’t like her – but I think these photos show that my camera loves her! These are a selection of the black and white photos I will be hand printing for them while they are on honeymoon, and you can see more photos on this page.

An Award Winning Photograph

I’m not one to blow my own trumpet for 8th place, but as this is an International competition, it doesn’t seem so bad!

The International Wedding Photojournalists Association said this about my photograph from Joanne and Rich’s wedding at Thainstone House Hotel near Aberdeen:

“JUDGES COMMENTS: One of my very favorite photographs. What a terrific moment, excellent composition and use of light that together capture the ambiance of the place and a child’s perspective of the event.”

Joanne and Richard’s Wedding

Joanne and Rich got married at Thainstone House Hotel, just outside Aberdeen. When I first arrived and met Joanne’s two small and cute nephews who were to be page boys, I thought she might be upstaged. But I needn’t have worried! The bride was her glamourous self, and the weather was perfect for an outdoor reception. Joanne was suitably embarrassed by her fathers revelations of her youth, although the speeches were too much for one young guest who decided to sleep instead.
The day was rounded off by a ceilidh and a rousing rendition of Auld Lang Syne.
