Life is never boring
I was taking Millie, a friend’s dog, for a walk today on one of my favourite local (and deserted) beaches. And I came across what looked like a very old, very corroded, unexploded bomb…..
Of course, I took some photos, and only then went home and called the police. The beach is remote enough for me to have to guide the two officers to it, and although they weren’t convinced it was an old bomb, they did say it was fairly common for old sea mines to get washed ashore. This was their second call out to a beach in East Lothian in a fortnight!
Anyway, I decided not to wait for the bomb squad to arrive, and headed back home, again.
Millie, of course, didn’t blink an eyelid!
UPDATE! The police have kindly rung to tell me that the bomb squad decided it wasn’t a bomb, and then proceeded to hack it open with hammers!!!!

The Perfect Storm
Three days after the beautiful sunshine of Rachel and Andy’s wedding in North Berwick, the perfect storm hit.
A combination of a spring high tide and gale force winds from the east meant that the tide came over the sea wall protecting the dinghy park, and caused flooding in some of the houses facing the beach on Forth Street.
One brave soul videoed it:
Rachel and Andy’s wedding
The car was nearly the star at Rachel and Andy’s wedding at the Marine Hotel in North Berwick – but even the attraction and beauty of the car that Andy first drove (a 15 year old Ford Escort) couldn’t diminish from the attraction and beauty of the bride!
It was a beautifully sunny, but freezing and windy day, so we didn’t spend too much time on the beach – and anyway, the party was well under way in the hotel!
Callanish provided the evening’s entertainment, and taught Andy’s Yorkshire family how to dance some traditional ceilidh dances.
It was a day of beauty, love, emotion, fun and laughter – the perfect wedding!

A Quieter Saturday
I didn’t have a wedding to attend last Saturday, and was looking forward to spending the weekend driving to London, stopping off en route to visit friends and family. Of course, my old life as a newspaper photographer had to intrude when the Mail on Sunday asked me to photograph Uri Geller as he visited the island he owns off the beach in North Berwick:

Happy Christmas
Merry Cristmas and a Happy New Year!
I’ll be travelling down south on Christmas Eve, to Norfolk, for a huge family gathering (23 people ranging from 3 years old to 79 years old!)
Here’s the photo I used on my Christmas card this year. Please – no comments on my focussing skills. I’ve heard them all already!
It’s North Berwick’s Christmas lights on the High Street, photographed with a very long lens from my neighbour’s kitchen window.

Have a great time!
